In January of 2002, the Town of Derby applied for a Vermont Community Development Program (VCDP) grant. This grant was used as partial funding for the construction of the Indoor Recreation of Orleans County (IROC) facility. This facility provides physical fitness and educational opportunities for people of all ages. Within this facility one can find a roller blade rink, a track around the rink for walking and jogging, an exercise room with weights and other exercise equipment, a multi-purpose room that can be used for dances, dance instruction, showing of movies, live performances, etc, a computer lab for public use, locker rooms, and office space. IROC also includes a swimming pool, however the pool was not built with this grant. This project was completed in February of 2006.
Jay
In November of 2001 the Town of Jay applied for a Vermont Community Development Program VCDP grant that was loaned to the Jay Peak Ski Resort to be used as partial funding for construction of the Jay Peak Golf Course. This golf course, designed by Graham Cooke & Associates, will make the Jay Peak Ski Resort into a four season resort. Construction was completed during the summer of 2006 with the front 9 holes opening that same summer. The back 9 holes will open during the summer of 2007. The close out of this grant will occur sometime during 2007.
Troy
In September of 2003 the Town of Troy applied for a Vermont Community Development Program VCDP Planning Grant that was sub-granted to a group of local meat producers who were concerned about the possible closure of the slaughterhouse in Troy. The grant funds were used to look into the feasibility of purchasing the slaughterhouse and operating it as a cooperatively owned business. It was suspected that if the slaughterhouse did close that there would be shortage of slaughterhouse capacity. However, what the feasibility study found was this would not be case. What the study did find was that there is a shortage of processing and packing plants. This project was completed in January of 2006.
