The Vermont Agency of Transportation, in coordination with Vermont ’ s twelve public transit providers, is developing these plans and the option to develop a strategic plan. The plans are updated every 5 years and allow the provider to receive Federal Transit Administration and state funding for concurrent and/or future projec ts. The consultant selected to facilitate the meetings and write the plans is Milligan & Company. Information will be posted as the project progresses.

This is the website to find out about public meetings, draft plans, and how to identify other stakeholders who want to participate during this process.

NVDA recently honored winners of the Business Plan Competition at an award ceremony at the Charles Carter Center in the St. Johnsbury–Lyndon Industrial Park. Gov. Jim Douglas made a special appearance and spoke to a gathering of over sixty people who supported the successful project.
The contest attracted thirty-nine entries. Twelve finalists were selected in January to continue work on their comprehensive business plans and advance to the award competition. Final judging took place in late February and Gov. Douglas presented awards to the finalists, runners-up, and grand prize winners.

Tracey Holbrook, Gov. Douglas present Lew Apgar & Scott Raymond from Kingdom Outdoors in St. Johnsbury the grand prize award iin the New Business category. The outdoor retailer offers new and used recreational products, services and knowledge to outdoor enthusiasts. Their plan is to expand their market by creating an e-commerce website to increase sales and broaden their customer base. |

Tracey Holbrook and Gov. Douglas present Todd Parlo and his son Leo a $1,000 check as runner-up in the New Business category. Walden Heights Nursery & Orchard specializes in growing and selling heirloom and heritage variety apple trees and other organic fruit trees, plants and bushes. |
Tracey Holbrook, Regional Vice President of Union Bank and Committee Chair, praised the organizers, sponsors, workshop leaders, mentors and judges who volunteered for the eight-month project to promote healthy commercial growth in the Northeast Kingdom. “Our team worked to provide educational support and professional assistance in the creation and retention of small businesses in Essex, Orleans and Caledonia counties. What a positive and rewarding experience it has been for everyone involved!”

Existing Businesses
Kingdom Crane in St. Johnsbury is owned by Brian and Shauna Clifford. Their expanding business offers a crane service for prefabricated housing and steel erection to customers in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
Cambron Credentials is a medical credentialing verification service. The business verifies the credentials and licensing of medical professionals for customers requiring time sensitive verification and management of this data for quality control processes.
S.A. Fishburn, Inc., owned by Sally Fishburn and Susannah Morlock, offers a diversity of services in historic preservation. Their growing business in Danville, specializing in wooden window restoration, plaster preservation, reproduction architectural millwork, and custom cabinetry is receiving statewide attention.
Red Sky Trading, located in Glover, is a unique home-operated business selling a variety of VT products, handmade gifts and award winning baked goods. The eclectic gift shop, owned by Doug and Cheri Safford also offers antiques, local produce, a colorful assortment of collectibles -- and the best homemade donuts in the NE Kingdom!
New Businesses
The Boathouse Grill is a lakeside restaurant and lounge to be located in downtown Newport. Stephen Halikas and his wife Christina Haugwitz plan to operate an upscale steak and seafood pub adjacent to the boardwalk on Lake Memphramagog.
Plumb Line Masonry, owned by Steven Towsley, provides a full line of masonry products and services to customers throughout Northern New England. The masons are skilled in brick, block and stone, and work with general contractors, commercial businesses and residential homeowners. The new business is offering training and apprenticeship opportunities to individuals who have a desire to learn the mason trade.
NEK Concierge Services in West Burke, offers a menu of home management services to area residents and vacation homeowners. Judith Miller is establishing a customer base and plans to provide efficient caretaking services, property inspection, and a variety of hassle-free assistance for property owners.
The Village Baker in St. Johnsbury opened its doors for business in 2007. Owned by Karen & David O’Donnell-Leach, the full service bakery is planning to develop a wholesale market to maximize daily production of bread and pastries and supplement walk-in retail business.
